Schinias Marshes (Attica)


This Ferruginous Duck was one of the more than 30 birds observed in Schinias Marshes, on the 18th of August, 2007. The species was first discovered nesting there in 2006, after years of almost year-round records. Schinias Marshes may be the southern site in Greece that this very rare duck nests. Apart from Ferruginous, Mallards, Grey Herons, Litte Egrets, Water Rails, Moorhens, Greenshanks, Green Sandpipers, Kingfishers, Marsh Harriers, Little Grebes and several Passerines were recorded.
