Syrian Woodpecker is the species seen most often in Greece. Found in northern Greece and with its range steadily expanding to the south over the years, it is very possible to be a future resident in areas like Attica. At present, it is very common in lowland woodland and farmland, as long as there are mature tree stands. Thrace is ideal for watching it, like this one found in farmland close to Ferres town.
