Birdwatching in Athens: Summer is (officialy) on!

Greece had a very rainy spring this year and May was unusually cold. However, June has arrived and despite the rains in its beginning, the temperature has risen to 30C (86F)!

This, of course, means that effective birding is limited now to the early morning and late afternoon hours. However, many birds are still active as breeding is at its peak:

The ubiquitous Sardinian Warbler is still very active, males singing every now and then

Turtle Doves are scarce breeders all over Attica, preferring cultivated land neighbouring to woodland
